Springfield Armory Silent Operator
Springfield Armory recently ran their annual “Duel 3” promotion letting consumers vote for their favorite firearms from the premier company. On September 29th they announced a “Tactical Prize package” which included a new model never seen before from Springfield Armory. It looks a heck of a lot like the Colt M45A1 Close-Quarters Battle Pistol (CQBP), but you appear to get some additional, valuable features. With not much to go on, Springfield Armory has slyly released their newest Model 1911: the Silent Operator!
With no current spec sheet available, lead time, or MSRP, its tough to tell if this gun will be in the price range of the Colt M45A1 CQBP (which for most consumers is too high at $2,000 – $2,500) or if it’ll be a premium pistol at a more attainable and appealing price ($1,200 – $1,500) similar to Springfield Armory‘s other Tactical Response Pistols (TRP). Regardless, the Silent Operator has caught the attention of all the staff here at The Guns and Gear Store!
With only a few photos to go off of and knowing what Springfield Armory typically produces, the specs for the Silent Operator should be something like this:
- Flat Dark Earth Armory Kote™ Finish
- VZ® Diamond Back MARSOC G10 Grips
- 30 L.P.I. Checkering on Front Strap & Mainspring Housing
- Suppressor Ready Trijicon Night Sights
- 1913 Picatinny/Accessory Rail
- Beveled & Extended Magazine Well
- 8-Round Magazines w/ Slam Pads
- Front & Rear Slide Cocking Serrations
- Adjustable, 3-Hole Trigger
- Extended Beavertail Safety & Serrated Hammer
Once you step up into the Operator or TRP series of 1911s from Springfield Armory there tends to be lots of Match Grade and National Match Grade components as well. Without a spec sheet, I don’t want to guess on internal components or assume anything though. We all know what happens when you or I assume something… I look stupid.
The cool factor, or Tacti-Cool factor should I say, is very high on this pistol and the utility is as well. With such features as night sights, an accessory rail, threaded barrel, and aggressive handling it would be suitable as a great target, hunting, and/or carry pistol.
The Silent Operator is coming… and we can barely wait!
